Ocean View Pier Tournament

June 9 2019 Results

The Ocean View Pier Tournament season has officially begun! What started as a gloomy, windy, and rainy day on Sunday June 9th, tuned into a perfect afternoon of fishing. The target species for the day was Croaker, Roundhead, and Bluefish. The bite was slow for the majority of the day but many croaker were being caught up and down the pier. In the adult division only croakers were turned in and a 9 inch Croaker won $150.00 !!!!!! In the children division Ethan received a $50.00 Bass Pro gift card for his 11 3/4 inch Roundhead. A non tournament eligible Cobia was pulled in over the pier measuring 43 1/2 inches! It was caught on some cut Pinfish on a metal top and bottom rig! Next tournament is scheduled for July 14th and the target species will be Croaker, Roundhead ,and Bluefish. Hope to see everyone there for a chance to win another $150 or $50 gift card! Tight lines!

Hunt for Hardheads

Date: May 18th, 2019

2019 Results: 1st Place - Great Bridge Fisherman's Association

Four teams from the Virginia Beach Angler’s Club competed in the 2019 Hunt for the Hard Heads Tournament against the Portsmouth Angler’s Club, the Norfolk Angler’s Club and the Great Bridge Fisherman’s Association.  It was a gorgeous day on the water for the teams of three or four anglers.  Light winds and calm seas treated the anglers to a great fishing day.  Fishing was restricted to the waters west of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.  The targeted species were Croakers, Blue Fish and Flounder.  Numerous Croakers and Blue Fish were caught by all teams.  The only Flounders caught were by Virginia Beach.  However, the two Flounders were under sized and non-scoring fish.  The “Measure In” was held at Portsmouth City Park and Portsmouth Angler’s Club sponsored lunch for all angler’s and guests.  Lunch was fried chicken, coleslaw, beans, rolls and assorted drinks. Proceeds from the tournament went to the Wish a Fish organization.  The final results were:  Great Bridge came in first, Norfolk came in second and Portsmouth and Virginia Beach came in tied for third.  Those two Flounders would have really helped.
